Final Grade Calculator
Find what you need on your final exam. Formula: (goal − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w.
Example: if the final is 30% of the course, enter 30.
How it works
- Enter your current course grade (before the final) as a percentage.
- Enter the goal overall percentage you want after the final.
- Enter how much the final is worth (percent of the course).
- We compute needed = (goal − current × (1 − w)) / w and flag results above 100% or below 0%.
FAQ
What is the final grade formula?
needed = (goal − current × (1 − w)) / w, where w is the final’s weight as a fraction (for example 0.30 for 30%). Current is your grade before the final, on the same 0–100 scale as your goal.
What if I need more than 100%?
The calculator shows the exact percentage required and a clear message when it exceeds 100%. You may need a lower goal, extra credit, or to confirm the final weight with your syllabus.
What if the needed score is negative?
That means you already meet the goal even with 0% on the final. The tool still reports the mathematical value for transparency.
Does this account for curved finals?
No. Enter the grade scale your syllabus uses. Curves and extra credit must be applied manually.
